Dear All,
We would like to extend our
thanks and gratitude to everyone who attended the weekend get -together at
Watford Hilton and hope that each one of you has thoroughly enjoyed the
function. We had the largest number of
attendance this year (about 290) and hope that this trend will continue in the
future.
Friday night started off with a cocktail
session at the hotel and a fairly quite dinner at Imperial China restaurant,
opposite Hilton Hotel. We had a quite but thoroughly enjoyable evening.
Saturday morning our enthusiastic
ladies took the lead to organise the decorations of the stage in the function hall.
Our thanks and gratitude to all of those who participated in this complicated tasks.
Bunt Association Accounts were
made available to the members for inspection at the entrance of the function
hall by the Secretary.
The evening program started at 1600 hours with a prayer song by Prashika
and Shilpa, followed by a beautiful Arti dance by Lena.
The AGM started with the
Presidents welcome address and an address of achievements of our members by the
Secretary.
This was followed by brief
speeches from our overseas guests who included, Mr. Shashi Kiran Shetty from
Bombay, Dr. Ashok and Rajani Shetty from United States, Mr. Narayan and Sharad
Shetty from Bangalore , Mr Ratnakar and Veena Alva from Bangalore and Mr
Vishwanath Hegde and his wife from
Bombay.
For discussion, three proposals
were presented to the members. Two of the proposals were from Dr.Sudharam Rai.
1, Reduction of the annual subscription
fees from £30.00 to £15.00 if paid by
standing order or direct debit.
2, All office bearers positions are to be
reduced to 2 years to reduce the work load of office bearers.
Both resolutions were passed by
the members
Third proposal was from Dr.Madhav
Shetty - ‘Only Members who are
subscribed members for more than a year can vote for discussion and to decide’. After clarification this proposal was not
accepted by the majority of the members.
This was followed by the election
of new office bearers .
Dr. Divaker Rai was unanimously
elected to be the next President and Hitha Shetty was unanimously elected to be
the next Secretary. Bhagya Gonsalves and Santhosh Rai were elected to be the Entertainment
Secretaries. Dheeraj Shetty was
requested to continue to be the Sports Secretary. The nominated committee
members from Scotland are Dr Sharath Shetty
and Dr.Prem Ballal, from Midland, Dr.Sandeep Hegde and A.N.Other (to be
nominated by the President elect), and from the South, Mrs. Latha Shetty and
Dr.Rajesh Shetty.
This was followed by the
following proposal to the members by Dr. Seetharam Melanta .
” First of all let me congratulate the
incoming President Dr Divakar Rai and
newly elected Secretary Hita Shetty and the new Committee Members.
Secondly I wish to thank Dr Vishwajith Hegde who gracefully withdrawn
his name as a Presidential candidate for the good of Bunt Association. We
have a tradition in UK Bunt Association that
the President’s name is proposed
and elected uncontested as to avoid the need for any election. We would like to
continue the same. Dr Vishwajith Hegde will take over as the next President of
Bunts Association UK following the end of
term of Dr.Divaker Rai.”
The statement was loudly applauded by the members and was generally
accepted.
This was followed by the welcoming address by the President elect for
the next term.
The eagerly awaited entertainment program started a bit late but waiting
was worth it. Sanjay started with a well acclaimed Odissi dance which was
followed by very professionally presented Bharath Natyam by Shilpa. Anusha
displayed her fantastic talent with a sweet classical song. This was followed
by a well received Michael Jackson dance by Santhosh and young Yash. Prathvi
amazed us by her talent with her Bollywood Masala fusion dance. The eye
catching husband and wife team – Santhosh and Lavanya exhibited their talent
with a beautiful fusion dance. This was followed by instrumental music by two
beautiful sisters – Ila and Shubha who captivated the audience with their
unassuming talents. Next, we had about twenty minutes of continuous display of
enormous talents with the 1960’s music dance, which kept the audience spell
bound, by Bhagya, Santhosh, Ravi, Prathap, Shilpith, Suresh, Vanitha, Prithvi,
Shrikanth, Sanath, Ashith, Sandeep, Prashika, and Rajesh.
The members disbursed and gathered again, fresh and looking at their
best, at 1930 at the function hall for a pre dinner drink. Dinner session
started with a fusion dance by our own London Rock Stars. After this, the
distribution of prizes for the winners on the Sports day took place. The
winners of the Cricket match was the South Team captained by Dheeraj and the
runner up was the North Team captained by Varun. Men’s shotput – 1st
Dheeraj and 2nd was Ashith. Ladies shotput – 1st Shilpitha
and 2nd was Prashika. Ladies group winners – Sabeena’s team which
included, Prashika, Jeevitha and Amitha. Sabeena’s team won the Rings as well. Sack race was won by Varun and Sachin.
Dinner was excellent and there was sumptuous food. During the dinner a
quiz contest was conducted by Ashik and Sabeena which was enjoyed by all and
everyone participated.
Following the dinner, the DJ had the dance floor going with the
fantastic Bollywood and Bangra music and our excellent dancers both young and
those pretending to be young enjoyed the evening until the reluctant closing
time of 0100 in the morning.
We wish to thank you all for attending the function and for your ongoing
support to your organisation and your community. May we take this opportunity
to wish you all a happy Diwali, a Merry Christmas and a peaceful and prosperous
New Year.

It is indeed a great
pleasure to welcome you and your family for the 21st Annual get together of the Bunt Association of
UK at the Hilton, Watford.
A year has passed
since our last meeting at Cedar Court Hotel at Wakefield. No doubt, we have
progressed forward another year with a long list of successful achievements by
our members.
It has been a very successful 21 years since our first generation of
Bunts established the UK Bunts Association way back in 1990 to promote our
social and cultural heritage and to maintain cohesiveness within the community.
We hope to foster the same ambition as our forefathers for our community, a
community whose progress and prosperity remain at the forefront of our minds
and actions.
There is no greater
wealth than wisdom, no greater poverty than ignorance, and no greater heritage
than culture and who can argue that we have not inherited a great culture.
To continue with our culture
and tradition the younger generation must persist in coming forward and take
active participation in the community affairs. It is my hope and aspiration
that these responsibilities are continuously passed on to the younger
generation to keep the Bunt Association of UK a successful organisation and to
take the community forward to new frontiers.
Thanks to our hard
working voluntary office bearers and the close involvement of all our members
we have strengthened our organisation and established continuing unity. We are
growing year after year and it is my hope that, this will carry on.
I wish to extend my
thanks to our Secretary, Joint
Secretary’s, Committee Members, Sports Secretaries, Editor of the Website and
of the Program guide and of course, to all of their Spouses for their enormous
contributions. I would also like to place on record my most grateful thanks to many
Talented Artists who are responsible for organising this event and for
providing us with some excellent entertainment.
As you may know, we
will have a new group of office bearers who will take over the responsibilities
for the next three years. I request all members to join me to extend our best
wishes to the new President, Secretary, committee members and all other office
bearers.
I would like to take
this opportunity to thank all of you for supporting this event by your
presence, and I hope you will have a wonderful time.
Thank you all and wishing
you the very best.

Hats off to the Bombay Brasserie which won the best Indian restaurant in London for the second year running at the British Curry Awards at Grosvenor House last night. “I’m a huge fan of curry,” announced Tory MP Eric “Chutney” Pickles, right, to nobody’s great surprise. The Communities Secretary went on to confirm his reputation as the Coalition’s axeman. Praising the British Asian restaurant industry for serving up four million poppadoms a week, Pickles told his audience: “It’s a testament to your tremendous cutting” before swiftly correcting himself to “your cooking”. Mr Pickles’s civil servants are on notice. “I hope to visit each of tonight’s winners soon,” he added. “I’m sure all of them will be second to naan."

I am delighted to welcome all of you and your families to the 20th anniversary celebrations of the Bunt Association of UK at the Cedar Court Hotel, Wakefield
It has been a very successful 20 years since our first generation of Bunts established the UK Bunts Association way back in 1990 to promote our social and cultural heritage and to maintain cohesiveness within the community. We are nurturing the same ambition as our forefathers for our community, a community whose progress and prosperity remain our constant concern and the objective of all our endeavours.
As we have often re-iterated, through leadership and example, the development of our community is a priority challenge to all members, especially to our younger generation. This development should meet the aspirations and expectations of our forefathers and can be achieved only with the active participation of all members of our community.
Our genetic makeup has not changed extensively through the years. If the genes of our ancestor’s enabled them to partake in great adventures and achievements, there is no reason why we cannot utilise these same characteristics we have all inherited from them. It is up to us how we construct our future as a traditional and an integrated community and at the same time retain our individuality.
We must embrace greatness and forsake trivialness, enrich ourselves with virtues and create a long lasting success as a legacy for our future generations. This should be our mission statement.
When we gather together as a community we do not just toast the success and achievements of the few, we must always remember those within our community who are not fortunate enough to lead as comfortable a life.
I take this opportunity to thank all of you for supporting this event by your presence. And for those who could not make it this time I wish them a lovely weekend and hope to see them next year.
I want to recognise the enormous efforts extended by our Secretary, Joint Secretary’s, Committee Members, Editors of our Website and of the Souvenir, Sports Activity Organisers and all of their Spouses and many Talented Artists who are responsible for organising this event and who, I am sure, will provide us with some good entertainment.
My sincere gratitude to all of them.
I hope you will have a wonderful time. Thank you all and wish you the very best.
